Virginia Giuffre, Jeffrey Epstein Accuser, Dies by Suicide at 41

Virginia Giuffre, a leading voice against Jeffrey Epstein and sexual abuse, has died by suicide at the age of 41.

Giuffre’s family confirmed her death in a statement shared with CBS News, revealing she died at her farm in Western Australia. "She lost her life to suicide, after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex trafficking," the statement read. Her family described her as a fierce advocate for survivors, someone who brought light and strength to many despite facing deep personal adversity.

Last month, Giuffre was seriously injured in a car accident involving a school bus in Western Australia. It is unclear whether the crash contributed to her recent struggles.

Giuffre became widely known for her allegations against financier Jeffrey Epstein and his associates. She accused Epstein of sexually trafficking her to several powerful men, including Britain’s Prince Andrew. Prince Andrew denied the claims, but Giuffre filed a lawsuit against him in 2021, alleging he sexually abused her when she was 17. The case was settled out of court in 2022.

Her attorney, Sigrid McCawley, paid tribute to her, saying, "Virginia was much more than a client to me; she was a dear friend and an incredible champion for other victims." McCawley praised Giuffre’s courage and strength, calling her loss devastating.

Born in California, Giuffre moved to Florida during her childhood. She endured a troubled upbringing, revealing to the Miami Herald that she was first molested by a family friend at the age of seven. She described the abuse as a life-altering event that marked the start of her long battle with trauma.

In the early 2000s, while working as a locker room attendant at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, Giuffre met British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, who later introduced her to Epstein. Giuffre accused Maxwell of grooming and abusing her. Maxwell was later convicted in 2022 and sentenced to 20 years in prison for helping Epstein sexually abuse underage girls over a decade.

Beyond her personal legal battles, Giuffre worked to support other victims by founding the nonprofit Speak Out, Act, Reclaim (SOAR), dedicated to educating and advocating for survivors of sex trafficking. Her passing marks a significant loss for the community of survivors and advocates she inspired.
