Emma Chamberlain revealed in March 2024 that she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a condition she didn’t even realize she had until a stranger pointed it out. She spoke candidly about her experience during an episode of her podcast Anything Goes, sharing how the diagnosis helped her make sense of a range of health issues she had been dealing with for years.
Speaking directly to her listeners, Emma said the condition explained many of the physical and emotional challenges she had faced, including irregular periods, cystic acne, anxiety, and depression. “I found out it’s the reason that for many years I’ve had irregular periods, cystic acne, anxiety, depression, and a slew of other issues,” she explained on the podcast. She noted that while the diagnosis came as a surprise, it also brought clarity.
Emma described her case as a milder form of PCOS, clarifying that she doesn’t have ovarian cysts or every symptom associated with the condition. Still, she emphasized that the diagnosis has helped her better understand her body and health. “I don’t have the cysts, I don’t have all of the symptoms of PCOS, but alas, I have it,” she said.
PCOS is a hormonal disorder that affects many women and can cause a variety of symptoms, including irregular menstrual cycles, acne, weight gain, and mood changes. It is also one of the most common causes of infertility. Emma’s decision to talk openly about her diagnosis has helped raise awareness about the condition, which is often misunderstood or overlooked.
By sharing her experience, Emma is joining a growing number of women using their platforms to shed light on PCOS and encourage others to seek answers if they are experiencing similar symptoms. Her openness offers comfort and validation to many listeners who may be going through the same thing but have not yet been diagnosed.
While Emma didn’t share exactly how the stranger led her to a diagnosis, her story highlights the importance of listening to your body—and sometimes, even to others—when it comes to health.
