Kim Kardashian’s 2016 Robbery Trial Begins as Suspects Face Court

The trial of ten suspects connected to Kim Kardashian’s 2016 gunpoint robbery officially began in Paris on Monday.

The robbery, which happened during Paris Fashion Week, involved Kardashian being threatened at gunpoint in her hotel room. At the time, the reality TV star and influencer was 35 years old. The thieves stole jewellery worth over $10 million, including a $4 million diamond engagement ring. Now 44, Kardashian is expected to testify at the trial on May 13, a major moment in the ongoing case.

The accused are mostly older men in their 60s and 70s, many of whom have long criminal records. Several are known by underworld nicknames such as “Old Omar” and “Blue Eyes,” names that sound like characters from classic French crime movies. On the night of the robbery, the criminals reportedly arrived by bicycle, stormed Kardashian’s room, and tied and gagged her before stealing her valuables.

Only one piece of jewellery — a necklace — was ever recovered, found dropped in the street. The rest of the stolen items were likely melted down and sold, with investigators believing Belgium was the destination for the melted gold. Authorities tracked the suspects mainly through DNA evidence, helping to uncover the detailed planning behind the crime.

Investigators also pointed to Kardashian’s regular social media posts, suggesting that her updates about her location and lifestyle made it easier for the robbers to target her.

The main suspect is Aomar Ait Khedache, also known as “Old Omar.” The 68-year-old admitted to binding Kardashian during the robbery but denied planning the heist, claiming an informant close to the celebrity provided critical information. Other notable suspects include Didier Dubreucq, 69, and Yunice Abbas, 71, who later stirred controversy by publishing a book titled I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian.

The trial is expected to reveal more details about one of France’s most notorious robberies in the past twenty years. With Kardashian’s upcoming testimony, the court proceedings could offer deeper insights into how the crime was carried out and who was ultimately responsible.
