A village in Bomet County has been left in shock after a 24-year-old teacher was brutally killed by her husband following a domestic argument on Monday night.
The tragic incident happened in the Kiromwok area, where the woman's body was found in a pool of blood inside the family compound. Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga confirmed that the victim suffered deep machete wounds to her head and hand, injuries believed to have been inflicted using a panga (machete).
The suspect, 27-year-old Lenox Kipngeno Korir, fled the scene immediately after the attack and remains at large. Police have launched a manhunt for him and are appealing to the public for information about his whereabouts. So far, the murder weapon has not been recovered.
“This is a deeply distressing and tragic incident,” said Commander Imbwaga. “We are working tirelessly to locate and apprehend the suspect. We urge members of the public with any information to come forward and help the police.”
Initial investigations indicate that the couple had a troubled marriage with frequent domestic disputes. Family members of the deceased revealed that attempts to resolve their issues through traditional mediation had not succeeded.
The victim, whose name is being withheld until her extended family is notified, was known in the community as a dedicated and hardworking teacher. She was widely admired for her efforts to empower young people, especially girls, through education.
“She was a bright light in this village,” said one resident. “She not only educated our children but also inspired many girls to stay in school. Her loss is unbearable.”
The body has been moved to Longisa County Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, investigators are following up on leads regarding the suspect's possible hideouts.
Police have vowed to pursue the case fully and ensure justice is served. They stressed the importance of community cooperation in tracking down the suspect.
This murder comes amid a rising number of gender-based violence (GBV) cases across Kenya, sparking renewed calls for stronger legal protections and community-based support systems for victims of domestic abuse.
Local leaders, education officials, and women's rights groups have strongly condemned the killing, urging authorities to move quickly to arrest and prosecute the suspect.
“This is not just a loss to her family—it’s a crime against the entire community,” said a local women's rights advocate. “We must all work together to end violence against women.”
