Five people, including the suspected shooter, were killed in a tragic shooting incident at a Manhattan skyscraper. The attack happened near a Morgan Stanley office building, shaking the heart of New York City’s business district.
Kyle Marshall, 38, was working at a Morgan Stanley office in a nearby Park Avenue building when he received a worrying text message from his mother. She had seen news of an active shooter in the area and wanted to make sure he was safe. After sending him the address of the incident, Marshall realized the attack had happened right next door. “I was, like, ‘Oh my God. That’s right next door to my building,’” he said.
Details about what led to the shooting and the identity of the gunman have not yet been released. However, authorities confirmed that four victims died along with the shooter. It is not yet clear whether the victims were targeted or chosen at random. Law enforcement officers responded swiftly to the scene, evacuating nearby buildings and securing the area.
The incident has left many in shock, especially those who work in the busy Midtown area, where high-rise office buildings, luxury apartments, and popular stores are located. Many people were just starting their day when the shooting began, causing panic and confusion.
Eyewitness accounts and phone recordings are helping authorities piece together what happened. Police say they are continuing to investigate the shooter’s motive and whether he had any connection to the victims or the location.
The tragedy adds to a growing list of public shootings across the United States and has raised fresh concerns about workplace and urban safety. Mental health support has been offered to those affected, including employees from nearby offices who may have witnessed the scene or were put in lockdown.
Officials have not released the names of the victims as they work to notify families. City leaders have called for unity and patience as investigations continue and more information becomes available. The NYPD has assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.
