Gachagua Says His Life Is in Danger, Seeks Police Protection

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now claims that his life is in danger and has called on Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome Kanja to provide him with protection. In a statement made on Monday, Gachagua said recent events point to a pattern of threats targeting him and his family.

He cited an incident in January 2025 during a prayer rally held in Nyeri and organized by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi. According to Gachagua, a group of people known to authorities disrupted the event, forcing his wife to be removed from the venue for her safety. He claims this was not an isolated case, suggesting a worrying trend that has persisted over time.

Gachagua directed his concerns to IG Kanja, saying he believes the police are aware of the individuals behind the threats. He urged the police boss to take his claims seriously and act swiftly to prevent any harm to him or his loved ones.

While he did not provide further details about the specific nature of the threats, Gachagua’s message appeared to be a direct appeal for intervention from the top leadership of the National Police Service.

The former deputy president has recently maintained a low profile in the political scene but continues to attract attention through public statements. His latest claims could stir political debate, especially given the sensitivity around security and the protection of former high-ranking officials.

The National Police Service had not issued a public response by the time of reporting. It remains unclear whether an official complaint or formal request for protection has been filed with the relevant authorities.

Gachagua’s call for protection comes at a time when political tensions in Kenya remain high, and security matters involving prominent leaders tend to raise public concern. His statement may place pressure on security agencies to reassure both him and the public that such threats will be addressed seriously.
