Gina Carano has reached a legal settlement with Disney and Lucasfilm after being removed from The Mandalorian series in 2021. The former MMA fighter and actress played the character Cara Dune on the Disney+ Star Wars spin-off before being dropped following controversial social media remarks.
Carano was fired after comparing the treatment of Republicans in the United States to that of Jews during the Holocaust. Her post drew widespread criticism, with Lucasfilm later condemning her comments for “denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities.”
Sharing news of the settlement on X (formerly Twitter), Carano wrote, “I hope this brings some healing to the force.” She called the agreement the “best outcome for all parties involved” and said she was ready to “flip the page and move onto the next chapter.”
The details of the settlement have not been made public, but the case gained major attention after billionaire Elon Musk supported and funded her legal challenge. Carano thanked him publicly, saying, “I’ve never met him, but he stepped in to do this Good Samaritan deed for me.” She concluded her message with, “Yes, I’m smiling.”
Carano’s lawsuit included claims of wrongful termination and gender discrimination. She alleged that two male co-stars had made similar social media posts but were not penalized. In her legal filing, she had sought $75,000 in damages and to be reinstated in the show.
In response to the resolution, Lucasfilm issued a statement expressing optimism about future collaborations. “We look forward to identifying opportunities to work together,” the company stated. It also praised Carano as a professional who “was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff,” noting that she worked hard and treated colleagues with kindness.
Carano, who has previously faced backlash for criticizing mask mandates and promoting false voter fraud claims after the 2020 U.S. election, now appears focused on moving forward. While her time on The Mandalorian may have ended, both parties seem to be leaving the door open for possible future cooperation.
