Brandon Blackstock, the former husband of singer Kelly Clarkson and a longtime talent manager, has died from cancer at the age of 48. His family confirmed his death in a statement released to CBS News.
The statement revealed that Blackstock had been battling cancer for more than three years. "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," the family said. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."
In response to his illness, Clarkson postponed her remaining August Las Vegas residency shows earlier this week. She addressed her fans on social media, sharing that Blackstock’s health had taken a toll on her family. “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” she wrote.
Blackstock and Clarkson began dating in 2012 and got engaged later that year. They married in 2013 during a private ceremony in Tennessee and went on to have two children together. Their relationship ended in 2021, and the divorce was finalized in 2022.
In addition to his two children with Clarkson, Blackstock had two other children from a previous marriage. He was also known for his work in the music industry, managing country star Blake Shelton for several years.
Brandon was the stepson of legendary country singer Reba McEntire, who was married to his father, music manager Narvel Blackstock, for over two decades before their separation.
Though best known in the public eye for his marriage to Clarkson, Blackstock had a notable career behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, supporting the careers of several major artists.
No further details about his memorial or funeral arrangements have been made public, and the family continues to ask for privacy as they mourn his loss.
