Two Officers Injured as Bungoma Suspect Turns Violent During Arrest

Two police officers are receiving medical treatment after a violent confrontation during an attempted arrest in Bungoma County. The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon in Stabicha village, located in Sirisia sub-county.

The officers, who are attached to Namwela Police Post, had been dispatched to apprehend a man accused of malicious damage to property. However, the situation escalated quickly when the suspect resisted arrest and turned violent.

According to both police reports and eyewitnesses, the suspect attacked the officers as they tried to arrest him. During the scuffle, one officer was bitten on the shoulder while another sustained a bite on the hand. The injuries were serious enough to require immediate medical attention.

The injured officers were first taken to Kaptenai Dispensary, where they received first aid. They were later transferred to Sirisia Sub-County Hospital for further treatment. Medical staff at the facility confirmed that the two are in stable condition and are expected to recover.

Despite the unexpected attack, a third officer who was part of the operation and was not injured managed to restrain and arrest the suspect. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Police have confirmed that the suspect will be facing multiple charges. These include malicious damage to property, assaulting police officers, and resisting lawful arrest. Authorities say the man remains in custody as investigations continue, and he will be arraigned in court once the process is complete.

This incident highlights the risks officers face while carrying out their duties, especially in situations where suspects resist arrest. Police have urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement and allow legal procedures to take their course.

The confrontation in Stabicha village has sparked concern among residents, with some calling for more support and protection for officers working in volatile environments. Meanwhile, the police have assured the public that justice will be served and the suspect will be held accountable for his actions.
