Kemi Badenoch, the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party leader, has unveiled a radical new immigration strategy that aims to deport 150,000 illegal migrants annually. Announcing the move in a video shared on her X account, she described it as the most ambitious and toughest border reform Britain has ever seen.
The plan, branded the Radical Borders Plan, includes the creation of a new Removals Force modeled on the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This body would be tasked with overseeing deportations and reinforcing border controls. “If you are in the UK illegally, you will be detained and deported,” Badenoch said firmly.
Her proposal lays out a series of sweeping measures. Among them is a ban on asylum claims from illegal entrants, the repeal of the Human Rights Act, and the withdrawal of the UK from the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). According to Badenoch, illegal entrants would be deported within seven days, with legal barriers to mass deportations removed. She also suggested introducing visa sanctions against countries that refuse to accept the return of their citizens.
Badenoch, known for her tough stance on immigration, did not spare previous governments from criticism. She accused both Labour and Conservative leaders of failing to handle migration effectively, citing record small boat crossings and billions of pounds wasted on housing asylum seekers in hotels. “Successive governments have failed on immigration. Labour promised to smash the gangs but, in just one year, they presided over record small boat crossings, more than 50,000 illegal arrivals, 32,000 asylum seekers housed in hotels, and billions wasted. It is pure weakness,” she said.
She added that the proposed Removals Force would not only address illegal migration but also dismantle what she termed the “asylum hotel racket,” saving taxpayers money and restoring public trust in the system.
Badenoch concluded her remarks by positioning the Conservatives as the only party with a “serious, credible plan” to strengthen the UK’s borders. “If you come here illegally, you will be deported,” she stated, emphasizing that her approach would restore confidence in the country’s ability to manage immigration.
Her announcement has further highlighted the divisive nature of the immigration debate in Britain, setting the stage for heated political battles in the coming months.
