Boniface Mwangi Alleges Death Threats, Claims Bullet Was Planted in His Bag

Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi has claimed that unknown individuals are threatening his life, alleging that a bullet cartridge was recently planted in his luggage in what he believes is a setup to frame him.

Mwangi said he did not report the incident to the police, expressing fears that doing so could be turned against him. He stated that he is already facing what he described as “trumped-up charges” related to illegal ammunition possession and therefore suspects the latest event is part of a wider effort to intimidate or silence him.

The activist, known for his outspoken criticism of corruption and social injustices in Kenya, has frequently accused powerful figures of using the justice system to target him. Mwangi said the bullet cartridge discovery left him shaken and reinforced his belief that his safety is under serious threat.

He alleged that certain individuals may be attempting to build a false narrative against him, possibly linking him to criminal activity. “Reporting to the same system that is after me would be like walking into a trap,” Mwangi reportedly said, emphasizing his mistrust of law enforcement.

Mwangi’s claims come amid growing concerns about the safety of government critics, journalists, and activists in Kenya. Human rights organizations have in the past documented cases where activists have faced harassment, unlawful arrests, and threats linked to their work.

The incident adds to Mwangi’s long list of confrontations with authorities. He has previously been arrested during protests and has taken part in numerous campaigns highlighting issues such as police brutality, poor governance, and lack of accountability among public officials.

The activist also hinted that the alleged threats and the planted bullet could be part of a broader attempt to silence independent voices ahead of key political and social events in the country.

Mwangi’s situation has drawn concern from supporters who have called on rights groups and international organizations to monitor his safety. While the authorities have not publicly responded to his latest claims, the activist maintains that he will continue speaking out despite the alleged threats and intimidation.

The alleged incident underscores the growing risks faced by activists in Kenya who challenge entrenched political and security interests.
