NDLEA Arrests Widow in Fake Pregnancy Cocaine Trafficking Case

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 50-year-old widow, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for attempting to traffic cocaine while disguising herself with a fake pregnancy. She was apprehended on Friday at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba, Lagos, while trying to transport 1.3 kilograms of cocaine to Abuja.

Ezewuike, a mother of one and fashion designer who runs Golden Star Creation in Okota, Lagos, told investigators she inherited the criminal trade from her late husband, who died two years ago. A follow-up search at her home led to the recovery of 200 grams of cutting agents used in processing cocaine.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed that the agency also intercepted several other drug consignments across multiple states in recent operations. In Lagos, officials seized 90 parcels of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis weighing 48.6 kilograms, concealed inside three cartons of kitchen sinks imported from the United States.

In Adamawa State, NDLEA agents raided the home of a notorious drug dealer, Idris Garba, who escaped by scaling a fence. His associate, Boniface Nnaji, was caught while attempting the same. Officers recovered a Toyota Tundra truck and a Toyota Yaris, which were used to transport 354,480 pills of tramadol.

Further operations across the country led to significant seizures. In Kogi, officers arrested Neche Okonkwo with 5,000 capsules of tramadol, 400 ampoules of pentazocine, and 200 ampoules of diazepam after crossing the River Niger. In Kano, large quantities of opioids, including 452,070 pills, were seized from various suspects. Additional arrests were made in Kwara, Ekiti, Edo, Ondo, Taraba, and Delta states, with huge consignments of cannabis destroyed on farmlands and warehouses.

One of the largest hauls included 25,500 kilograms of cannabis destroyed on plantations in Delta, while another 25,025 kilograms were destroyed on farms in Ondo. Similar operations in Edo led to the destruction of over 14,000 kilograms of the drug.

NDLEA Chairman Brig-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended officers across all participating states, urging them to sustain the agency’s balanced approach to drug control through arrests, seizures, and prevention efforts.
