Diogo Jota’s Wife Shares Emotional Tribute One Month After Wedding

Rute Cardoso, the wife of late Liverpool striker Diogo Jota, has spoken publicly for the first time since his tragic death. She marked what would have been their first month of marriage with an emotional message, just three weeks after Jota died in a car crash in Spain.

On Instagram, Cardoso posted three photos from their wedding, which took place on 22 June, along with a heartfelt caption. “One month of our ‘until death do us part,’” she wrote, adding that she was “forever” his. The tribute drew widespread sympathy from fans and footballers alike, with many sending messages of support.

Jota, 28, died on 3 July after the Lamborghini he was travelling in with his younger brother, Andre Silva, suffered a tyre blowout and crashed in Cernadilla, Zamora province, Spain. The car caught fire, and Jota did not survive the accident.

The Portuguese forward had joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and quickly became a key player for the club. In his time at Anfield, Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances and helped Liverpool win several trophies. He played a major role in Liverpool’s FA Cup and League Cup victories in 2022, and again contributed to another League Cup win in 2024. Jota was also part of the squad that won the Premier League title last season.

In honour of Jota, Liverpool Football Club has decided to retire his number 20 shirt. The club also unveiled a mural near Anfield, painted with the number 20 and surrounded by heartfelt fan messages. The tribute has become a place for supporters to gather, remember the forward, and celebrate his impact on and off the pitch.

Jota's death shocked the football world, with tributes pouring in from clubs, teammates, and fans globally. Many remembered him not only for his talent and contributions on the field but also for his humility and dedication.

As Rute Cardoso continues to mourn her husband, her message has resonated with many, offering a glimpse into the deep personal loss behind the public tragedy.
