Nigerian singer Korede Bello has opened up about his departure from Mavin Records, the music label founded by Don Jazzy. Bello, who joined Mavin in 2014 and left in 2021, recently shared his reasons for leaving during an interview on HipTV.
In the interview, Bello explained that he felt like a “product” being marketed to make money, which led him to lose sight of his purpose and what mattered most to him. The 28-year-old singer revealed that the pressure of chasing hit songs and remaining relevant in the industry had taken a toll on him.
“I was at a stage where I started to feel like something that was just being sold, something that is just there to make money," he said. "You lose sight of what matters when you chase after the next hit, and a lot of artistes are addicted to that circle."
Bello took a break from music to reflect, saying, “I needed to reconnect to my purpose and why music is an important tool for communicating who I am and what I’m about.”
Despite his departure, Korede Bello emphasized that he remains on good terms with Don Jazzy, his former label boss. He expressed no regrets about leaving, instead highlighting the importance of self-discovery and maintaining balance in his life and career.
In 2022, Bello spoke about how he handles pressure from fans, adding that personal growth remains his primary focus.
